Long Live the Queen!
Wow, it's been awhile since my last post. Here's what's happened since then: Ryan has finally moved here officially and began work last Monday. He loves it! The people he works with are great and he can't wait for the season to kick off so he can work at selling some condos! Speaking of season, the island has become a completely different place from when I first arrived back in August. For one thing, the traffic is horrendous. We live 2 miles from school and between 3:30-6:30pm it takes us approx. 1 hour to get home. It works out okay though because I study while Ryan drives :) And, there are tourists everywhere..and I mean everywhere.
This weekend was a big celebration on the island: St. Maarten's Day. Ryan, along with all St. Maarten employees, had the day off. It is illegal to work on this day! There was a parade, lots of traffic, and Queen Beatrix from the Netherlands was here. So you could imagine how crazy it was..fireworks and all. Allison's boyfriend was here so the four of us went to Pinel Island for the day to snorkel. Pinel is literally 500 yards off St. Maarten so you pay $6 and ride a water ferry over. It's basically just a nice uninhabited beach that celebrities go to. It was beautiful and the weather was perfect. We were able to see lots of colorful fish including barracuda! No celebrities though...
This week is going to be a rough one. I have biochem on Friday, anatomy next Monday and histology next Wednesday. I need to study my ass off this week since my mom and sisters are arriving on Saturday! I can't tell you how excited I am. It's been 3 months since I've seen them (or pretty much anybody minus Ryan and his parents!). So it'll be a busy week, but really exciting. My mom is shipping a turkey for thanksgiving...Ryan is especially excited about this!
What else...Ryan has moved on from wanting a motorhome to now obsessing over yachts. It's hard not to here being that St. Maarten is the yachting capital of the world. We are talking 6 story 300 million dollar yachts! Since Ryan is working with Sotheby's now he gets to go to the yacht show next month. I'm sure most of you will hear all about it..
